Welcome to Rex's first blog entry :) Jokes aside, let's get to the main topic. I just watched Nolan's Odyssey movie, in IMAX (poor people's version, not the exclusive 70mm). I watched it at the Cinplex at Yonge and Dundas. A terrible location to visit, as usual.

I walked there from St George. It was real sunny with a light breeze, perfect weather to take a nap outside. I was on the long stone benches outside of Naylor, sitting there with my eyes closed and my mind empty. Peace. Serenity. Felt especially nice when you know you're supposed to be at work right now, but you're not.

However, I might be too relaxed. On the walk to the cursèd (yes we fancy with the acute accent) intersection I was so so so close to falling asleep. But I didn't! I went into Eaton and stumbled into this very nice candy store. Got some sour gummies.

What were we talking about? Oh right, the movie. It was long. Many of the scenes were very loud. Most of the loud scenes were uncomfortably loud, but it's interesting that they did not bother me that much, not even close to when I was in a club, even though in terms of pure decibels the movie was undoubtedly louder. The audience was nice. An absolutely packed theatre it was, but no one was loud or distracting. I was on the last row, put between two pairs of couples. At least one pair smelt weirdly nice.

What I liked about the movie

The horse on the beach was a nice shot. The battle of Troy was intense. The cyclop's scream was satisfyingly creepy (also loud af), if SCP-096 could scream (I mean, it could, but it's hard to stay alive after you've heard it) it would probably sound like that. Agamemnon aura farming was enjoyable. The thunderstorm scene where their ship broke was very powerful.

What I didn't like about the movie

The cinematography was boring. Like someone on Reddit pointed out, the scenery doesn't look mediterranean at all. Other than that, the props were meh, the compositions were unremarkable, the colour palettes were boring as heck, no scenes were beautiful in any way to me.

The acting was okay. I liked Tom, Lupita and the guy with Matt Damon the best. Zendaya didn't really do anything. Elliot Page didn't really do anything. Robert Pattinson was annoying, everytime he comes up I just want him to get off the screen.

The story was okay. Too much exposition at the beginning, felt forced. I feel like the ending could be a lot shorter. Some scenes were better left out to be filled in by the audience.

The scores were okay.

Overall, it's just not an interesting movie to me. I also don't see a reason why this would need to be in IMAX, other than the fact that Nolan can make the scenes "legally" annoyingly loud. The fact that it's filmed all the way with IMAX cameras should be technically impressive, I guess, but this movie has nothing else going for it. It's a waste of IMAX film in my opinion, might as well be shot on iPhone.
