I like e-ink devices. The screen is reflective thus has better contrast under lighting, the image persists without consuming power, and the refresh rate is slow --- a real plus for devices meant to reduce distractions!

The first e-ink device I've seen was a kindle from Leaf's mom, I remember seeing her reading from the couch on 8th floor with the kindle in her hand. The screen emitted no light however the contents can be changed! Magical.

Kobo Sage

Well-built, nicer to hold than Oasis without the very slippery back. Screen looks nice, but the buttons are too stiff. Not a fan of Kobo's software. Returned on the same day.

Kindle Paperwhite

First Kindle I've owned. The screen is gorgeous and the device sips power. I rarely have to charge it, usually once a month?

Kindle Scribe

So amazon made a kindle that's got a pen with it! Great for taking notes allegedly, and its large screen should make it a nice PDF reader. I got it just for fun since I rarely had to take notes during my co-op. Ended up returning it.

The writing experience is fairly good considering how slow e-ink screens are.
Writing on it feels natural and responsive. However it was not nearly as power efficient as I thought it would be and it was too heavy to hold comfortably when reading, so I returned it after a week or so.

Kindle Basic

The screen is recessed and has somewhat better contrast compared to the paperwhite however it's just too small, which means it's more comfortable to hold but not as good to read on. Sold on kijiji.

Kindle Oasis

The flagship kindle before the announcement of Scribe. It has a large screen, an asymmetric design with one side thicker to act as a handle, and two page turn buttons on the same side so you can comfortable turn pages using one hand.

Well, turns out it's not that comfortable. The thicker side is still too thin for my hand to comfortably hold onto. Apart from that, battery doesn't last long enough. The charging port is USB Micro-B. The built-in LTE functionality doesn't work well. Sold on Facebook marketplace.

Kindle Scribe Again

After school term started I was looking for a device that I can take handwritten notes on that wasn't my iPad, since it doesn't last very long. I wanted a thing that I can just take everywhere without worrying it would die on me, so I bought a kindle scribe again.

The writing experience is good and the device lasts much longer than my iPad, however after two months the screen started to have alignment issues --- the pen strokes register in different places from where my pentip is. This is an unacceptable defect for a writing-based device. I returned it swiftly.

Kindle Paperwhite Again

My current device. The 12th gen model has a faster screen, which is a joy to use. It retains all advantages of previous models. We'll see how this one goes.
